Golden Gate man accused of stabbing brother in chest for spending extra $10 to $30

Michael James Lindsey Jr.

A Golden Gate man was arrested Thursday night and accused of stabbing his brother in the chest, the Collier County Sheriff's Office reported.

Michael James Lindsey Jr., 28, was at a family barbecue in the 2000 block of 55th Terrace Southwest when he gave his brother his food stamp card and asked him to go to a store to get food. He asked his brother, Mitchael Lindsey, to spend only a certain amount because he was short on money.

After his brother returned, having spent more than Michael asked him to, they began arguing and fighting, according to their father, who said he witnessed the altercation.

Michael grabbed a large kitchen knife and stabbed his brother in the chest, then fled in a car with Michael's fiance, children and cousin, according to the arrest report. Mitchael was pulled out of the house by his father and waited for deputies and paramedics to arrive.

Mitchael was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital with a 2-centimeter stab wound to his right chest area, which required three staples, according to the report. Lee Memorial staff told the Sheriff's Office that Mitchael's right lung had been punctured and there was blood in the lung as well as air in the chest cavity.

Mitchael was in stable condition Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Office.

When deputies interviewed Michael, he said his brother spent an extra $30 and made rude comments to his fiance. However, Mitchael said he had spent only an extra $10, deputies reported. Their father said he overspent by $12.

Michael was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Naples Jail Center for booking Thursday night. Bail wasn't set, and he is scheduled to appear in count July 16.
