Detectives with the Sheriff's Office narcotics unit tried to serve an arrest warrant on the man in the area of U.S. 41 and Coconut Road around 4 p.m, according to Undersheriff Carmine Marceno.

The man, resisting arrest, got in his car and "intentionally" tried to run detectives down, officials said. "Fearing for his life," a detective fired at the man with his gun, Marceno said.
