Froyo, sriracha, California roll: Merriam-Webster adds 250 new words

Call it froyo? Now, Merriam-Webster does, too.

Maybe Merriam-Webster.com recently onboarded a few foodies, because froyo, sriracha and California roll now have dictionary definitions.

The dictionary added 250 new words Monday.

Froyo is now an acceptable way to describe frozen yogurt. Sriracha is "a pungent sauce that is made from hot peppers pureed with usually garlic, sugar, salt, and vinegar." And, a California roll is a sushi roll with "avocado, cucumber, and cooked crabmeat or imitation crabmeat with a wrapping of seaweed and rice."

More tasty terms? Bibimbap, choux pastry, cordon bleu and Saigon cinnamon. That’s not word salad (another newly-approved term).

Also, the dictionary finally caught on to the meaning of pregame, a verb to describe "drinking alcohol before an event or activity (such as a party or a night out)." It even tossed in a term for beer lovers: IPA, a pale ale made with extra hops.
